Migraine Q&A
What are the indicators of a migraine headache?
There are many different migraine headache symptoms and no two migraines are exactly alike. The main common symptom for most people is a strong and intense throbbing type pain on one or both sides of the head. Many migraine sufferers also have other symptoms, including nausea, blurry vision and sensitivity to light. Some migraine sufferers also have auras, a type of visual distortion that tends to occur just before a migraine begins.
How long can migraines last?
Migraines can last for as little as a few hours or as much as a couple of days. There is rarely any way to predict the duration and intensity of a migraine headache, so having an effective treatment that focuses on prevention is important.
Is there a clear cause of migraine headaches?
Migraine headaches happen when the blood vessels suddenly start constricting within the brain. Generally, women are at a higher risk of developing migraines than men, in addition to patients who have fellow migraine sufferers in the family. There are also certain behaviors that may contribute to the development of migraine headaches, such as drinking high quantities of caffeine, drinking too little water, getting inadequate sleep, and having high levels of stress.
What is the chiropractic answer for migraines?
Dr. Hui approaches migraine headaches in several ways. Often, a spinal misalignment can cause problems with the nerve function, which may contribute to migraine pain. With spinal manipulation, this misalignment can be quickly corrected. Additionally, ultrasound therapy may be used. This type of treatment can help reduce pain and increase relaxation. Massage is also very beneficial for many people who suffer from migraine headaches. Massage can not only help patients relax, it can also reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation. When these therapies are combined, many patients are able to drastically lower the amount and severity of their migraines they have.
